Plugin Name & Slug Availability Checker

Before you spend weeks building a WordPress plugin, check that its name is not already taken. Enter a plugin name and we turn it into a slug, check it against the WordPress.org directory and show similar existing plugins.

Waiting for the security check below to finish…

How it works

  1. Type the plugin name you have in mind, or the exact slug.
  2. We convert it to a WordPress.org slug (lowercase, words joined by hyphens) and look for an exact match.
  3. We also list similar plugins and warn when the name starts with a well-known plugin's brand.

Frequently asked questions

Is 'available' a guarantee?
No. We check WP Rank's copy of the public directory. Plugins that were just submitted, are still in review or were closed long ago may not appear. The slug is only reserved when you submit the plugin to WordPress.org and it is approved.
What does a closed plugin mean for the slug?
A slug we know was removed from the directory is usually not reusable by someone else. Pick a different name.
What is the brand warning?
WordPress.org does not accept plugin names that start with another company's trademark unless you represent that company. We flag names whose first word matches a popular plugin, such as 'woocommerce-' or 'yoast-'. It is a heuristic, so read the plugin guidelines for the full rules.
How is the slug generated?
The name is lowercased, anything other than letters and numbers becomes a hyphen, and repeated or leading and trailing hyphens are removed. 'My Cool Plugin!' becomes my-cool-plugin.
