Abandoned & Outdated Plugin Checker
An unmaintained plugin is a risk to your site: it may break on new WordPress versions and stop receiving security fixes. Enter a plugin to see whether it is still actively maintained.
How it works
- Search for the plugin you want to check.
- We score three signals: how long ago it was last updated, how many WordPress releases behind its tested version is, and whether support threads get resolved.
- The score becomes one of four labels, from actively maintained to likely abandoned. If the plugin is a concern, we suggest actively maintained alternatives.
Frequently asked questions
- How is the label calculated?
- Last update: 3 points if over 2 years ago, 2 points if over 1 year, 1 point if over 6 months. WordPress compatibility: 3 points if the tested version is 6 or more releases behind, 2 points for 3 or more, 1 point for 2 or more. Support: 1 point if fewer than a quarter of 10+ threads are resolved. 0-1 points is actively maintained, 2 is slowing down, 3-4 likely outdated, and 5 or more likely abandoned.
- Does 'abandoned' mean the plugin is insecure?
- Not by itself. It means we see no recent maintenance, which makes problems more likely to go unfixed. Some small, focused plugins work fine for years without updates. Treat the label as a prompt to look closer, not a verdict.
- Can a plugin not be updated and still be fine?
- Yes. A simple plugin with no moving parts may not need changes. That is why we also look at WordPress compatibility and support activity instead of only the update date.
- Why is my plugin missing?
- We only cover plugins in the WordPress.org directory. Premium plugins sold elsewhere, custom code and plugins closed by the WordPress.org team are not included.
