Batch and automatic optimization for the media library
Image Optimizer can process existing media in batches or individually, and optimize new uploads automatically.
Background processing means the settings page does not need to stay open while images are optimized. This suits sites with large libraries or ongoing uploads, where processing images one by one would take more attention.
Compression, resizing and image-format conversion
The controls let site owners balance file size, image quality and format needs.
- Compression: Choose lossless compression to preserve image detail or lossy compression for greater file-size reduction, with some quality trade-off.
- Resizing: Set a maximum image width and resize registered thumbnail sizes; all sizes are processed by default, with an option to select specific ones.
- Supported formats: Work with JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF and GIF images.
- WebP and AVIF conversion: Convert images to either format and keep an original-format fallback for browsers that do not support the converted format.
- EXIF metadata: Remove metadata optionally to reduce file size further; this is useful when that information is not needed on the site.
Original-image backups and restoration
The plugin saves original images so optimized media can be restored if needed.
Restoration is available for selected media files and their image sizes. Backups can also be permanently deleted to free space, so sites with tight storage budgets should weigh that saving against the ability to revert images.
How optimization is processed through Elementor
Optimization requires a manual connection to an active Elementor account and uses an Elementor-operated third-party service.
- Connection: Link an active account through the plugin settings before using the service.
- Processing: The service receives supported images and returns optimized versions when processing is started manually or triggered by configured uploads. Sites should account for this external processing step when planning their media workflow.
Broad adoption, but limited review and support evidence
The plugin has broad directory adoption, but its poor rating makes the user feedback a reason for caution.
- Maintenance: It was updated 37 days ago, a recent sign of ongoing maintenance.
- Support: Its sole support thread is marked resolved, a positive signal, though too small a sample to establish a consistent support record.
- Reader takeaway: The update and resolved thread are encouraging, but the poor rating despite a moderate number of reviews warrants checking recent feedback before adopting it for a large media library.
