Existing Spectra sites keep their blocks without migration
Existing sites can continue using Spectra Legacy without changing their setup.
The rename from Spectra does not alter existing blocks, pages, settings or content. There is no required configuration, migration or deadline; Spectra Blocks is a separate, optional plugin, so sites can stay on the legacy version.
The legacy block library covers layouts, content, forms and site tools
Spectra Legacy retains a broad set of blocks and site-level tools for existing builds.
- Core and content blocks: Containers, headings, images, buttons, sliders, tabs, maps, notices and price lists support page layouts and content.
- Post and social blocks: Post grids, carousels and timelines sit alongside Instagram feeds, social sharing, team and testimonial blocks.
- Forms and SEO: Contact, newsletter and suggestion forms are included with FAQ, How-To, review and table-of-contents blocks. Registration and login forms are marked Spectra Pro Legacy.
- Dynamic content: Archive feeds can be filtered by date, author, category and post type; the Loop Builder is marked Spectra Pro Legacy.
- Site tools: Popup Builder, Coming Soon mode, animations, local Google Fonts and global styling defaults are included.
- ZipAI compatibility: The former AI block continues to work under the ZipAI name, though new AI features are being developed in Spectra Blocks.
New features are developed in Spectra Blocks
Spectra Legacy is maintained for existing sites, but it is not where new features will be added.
- Ongoing maintenance: The legacy plugin receives security patches, compatibility updates and standard support, but no new features; plan on it for stability rather than future additions.
- Separate development: Spectra Blocks is the destination for new development and is optional for existing sites.
- Transition option: Both plugins can run together while existing pages remain on Legacy and new ones use Spectra Blocks. Each plugin loads assets for the blocks used on a page, which supports a gradual transition.
Compatibility and support remain part of the legacy offering
Spectra Legacy continues to offer compatibility updates and support for sites that keep using it.
- Themes and plugins: It works with standard themes including Spectra One, Astra, Blocksy and GeneratePress, and names WooCommerce, SureCart, Gravity Forms, LearnDash, MemberPress and Yoast SEO among compatible plugins.
- Platform versions: WordPress 5.6 is required, compatibility is listed through WordPress 7.1.4, and PHP 7.4 is required; check these against the site’s environment.
- Help channels: Support is available through the WordPress.org support forum, with documentation, a Facebook group and social channels also listed.
- Maintenance record: The latest update was within the past few weeks. Of seven support threads, 71% are marked resolved, a useful but limited signal when assessing support responsiveness.
A practical choice for existing sites, not for new feature development
Spectra Legacy suits sites built with its blocks that value continuity over new functionality.
The no-migration approach, continuing security and compatibility maintenance, and standard support make it a practical option for existing builds. Its adoption is among the directory’s highest, and its user rating is excellent across many reviews; the 71% resolution rate across seven threads is encouraging, though based on a small support sample. The trade-off is clear: sites seeking new features should consider the separate development path, while existing users can keep Legacy and monitor its updates.
