Description

Free form building, calculations and submission management

Ninja Forms offers a broad free toolkit for building forms and handling their entries. The drag-and-drop builder includes 31 field types, calculations, signatures, star ratings and repeatable fieldsets; its AI assistant can draft forms from a description using a provider you connect. Forms and submissions are unlimited, and entries can be viewed, searched, edited and exported in WordPress, making the free core suitable for sites that need to retain and manage responses on their own server.

Notifications, spam controls and form access

The core covers common submission workflows, with practical controls for limiting access and unwanted entries.

  • Notifications and confirmations: Send emails to multiple recipients, show a success message or redirect, fire GA4 events, and call WordPress action hooks.
  • Spam protection: Every form has a honeypot; optional tools include an anti-spam question, reCAPTCHA, hCaptcha and Turnstile. Akismet can check submissions if its plugin is installed.
  • Submission limits: Restrict forms to logged-in visitors, reject duplicate values in a field, or cap total submissions—useful for limiting repeat entries or registrations.
  • Embedding and sharing: Add forms with a block, shortcode, widget or post/page setting, or share a public link when you do not need a dedicated page.

Templates, privacy tools and developer workflows

Templates and built-in privacy features can shorten setup and help manage personal data. Nine templates are included, with a further library of 100 importable templates; check each template’s add-on requirements before choosing it. Forms and favorite fields can also be duplicated, imported or exported between sites.

  • Privacy controls: Mark fields as personally identifiable and exclude their values from storage. WordPress privacy tools support data export and erasure, and front-end request actions let visitors submit requests themselves.
  • AI and developer workflows: The AI builder uses the WordPress AI Client with a provider you connect. The Abilities API exposes 29 permission-checked actions for connected AI assistants, including building forms and managing submissions.

When premium add-ons become necessary

The free core handles many standard form needs, but several advanced workflows require paid add-ons. Factor those extras into planning if a form needs capabilities beyond the included builder.

  • Paid features: Conditional logic, file uploads, multi-step forms, payments and integrations are add-ons.
  • Purchasing options: Add-ons are available individually or through membership bundles, so compare the required features with the bundle scope before deciding.

A broad free toolkit with support that merits checking

Ninja Forms suits sites seeking extensive free form and entry-management tools, though buyers planning complex workflows should check which add-ons they need and review support activity. The plugin is widely adopted, has generally good ratings across many reviews, and was updated within the last week; support data shows 10 threads, with 60% resolved. That share indicates some support activity, while leaving a substantial portion unresolved in the reported data.
