Description

Drag-and-drop ordering for hierarchical taxonomies

The Taxonomy Order screen makes it possible to set a visual order for hierarchical terms without editing them individually.

Drag parent and child terms into place, and switch between taxonomies associated with a post type from the same screen. This suits sites that need to control the order of Categories or other hierarchical taxonomies while preserving their hierarchy.

Applying custom term order to the site and admin

The plugin offers both automatic sorting and a code-controlled option, so you can choose where the custom order applies.

  • Autosort: Enable it to apply the chosen order to front-end queries without changing theme or plugin templates; this is the simplest route for sites that want the order applied automatically.
  • Admin term lists: Keep term lists in the selected order for a more consistent editorial workflow.
  • Code-controlled sorting: Turn Autosort off and pass orderby => 'term_order' to get_terms() when you want to select where the custom order is used.

Recent maintenance and support make it a dependable choice

Broad adoption, an excellent rating and recent maintenance point to a well-established plugin, though its review base is moderate.

It was updated within the last week, and its only recorded support thread is resolved. That is a positive sign, but a single thread offers limited evidence about support responsiveness; users who need more features can consider the separate Advanced Taxonomy Terms Order version.
