Description

Drag-and-drop ordering across WordPress content

Intuitive Custom Post Order lets you reorder selected content from WordPress admin list tables. Choose sortable posts, pages, custom post types, taxonomies, terms or Multisite sites in Settings → Intuitive CPO, then drag items into place. This suits sites that want editorial ordering without changing their theme.

For moves across list-table pages, increase the Number of items per page under Screen Options so more items are visible together.

How custom queries handle the saved order

Front-end ordering follows the saved positions for enabled content, but custom queries may need explicit settings.

  • Enabled content: Front-end queries for selected post types and taxonomies use the saved order unless the query specifies another order.
  • Custom post queries: Set orderby=menu_order and order=ASC in WP_Query or get_posts() to preserve drag-and-drop order.
  • Date ordering: When a query should show newest items first, explicitly request orderby=date and order=DESC. For get_posts(), use default_date as the orderby value for this behavior.
  • Term queries: Avoid overriding the saved term order unless a different order is intentional.
  • Main query changes: Use pre_get_posts or WP_Query rather than query_posts(), which WordPress discourages. Custom-query users should check their query arguments to avoid unexpected ordering.

A focused utility with limited support signals

The plugin is widely installed and has a good user rating based on a moderate number of reviews. Its last update was 416 days ago, and support-thread data is absent, so maintenance activity and support responsiveness are difficult to assess.

This focused tool suits sites that need manual ordering without a broader content-management workflow. The trade-off is limited visibility into ongoing maintenance and support; weigh that uncertainty alongside the positive adoption and rating signals.
