Sitemap formats and WordPress content coverage
The plugin covers standard WordPress content, store listings and several specialized sitemap formats.
- Core formats: XML, HTML and RSS sitemaps.
- Content coverage: Page and post sitemaps, custom post types, taxonomies, WordPress-generated pages and custom URLs.
- Specialized types: Image, news, video and mobile sitemaps are listed among the supported options.
- WooCommerce: Sitemaps can include product pages, categories and tags, which suits stores with a wide catalog.
Sitemap generation and search-engine notifications
Activation creates a sitemap automatically, while publication and submission steps help search engines discover site content.
- Activate the plugin: It automatically generates
sitemap.xml and notifies major search engines when a post is published.
- Find the sitemap: Add
/sitemap.xml to your site’s address to access it.
- Submit it: In Google Search Console, open Sitemaps, enter the sitemap URL and submit it; repeat the process for Bing, Yandex and Baidu as needed.
- Refresh after changes: Update the sitemap after significant changes to site content or structure so search engines can find new or revised pages.
Free access, subscriber-only sitemap options, and support signals
The plugin is free under the GPL for personal and commercial use, but some sitemap options are reserved for subscribers. The FAQ does not identify which formats or types require a subscription, so check access before relying on a particular option.
The latest release, 4.1.25, was updated September 18. The project reports a support history spanning more than a decade; three support threads are recorded, with none marked resolved.
Its adoption is among the highest in the directory and its rating is excellent, with many reviews. That breadth and long history may appeal to sites seeking extensive sitemap coverage, though the small support-thread count and lack of resolved threads offer limited evidence of current responsiveness.
