Email providers, APIs and SMTP connections
FluentSMTP supports a broad range of email services through native APIs or SMTP connections.
- Native APIs: Connect Amazon SES, Gmail and Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, SendGrid, Mailgun, Postmark, Cloudflare Email Sending, Brevo, SparkPost, Netcore, toSend, SMTP2GO and Elastic Email.
- SMTP options: Use Zoho Mail, PHP mail(), or a custom SMTP server, including one provided by your host.
- Practical fit: Sites can connect services they already use, but still need valid provider credentials and an appropriately configured sending account.
Routing, fallback and delivery monitoring
FluentSMTP takes over WordPress’s wp_mail() function, so messages sent by themes and plugins are passed through a connected service. This makes it useful when a site needs to move beyond its default mail-sending setup without changing each sender.
Multiple connections can be assigned to different sender addresses, and a fallback connection can take over if the primary one fails. Daily connection-health monitoring adds a further check, though sites should still review their own provider settings and delivery outcomes.
Email logs, retries and failure alerts
The plugin includes tools for investigating failed messages and monitoring email activity.
- Message records: Review logged email headers, body content and the server’s response.
- Resending and retries: Retry failed messages or resend a logged email to a chosen recipient.
- Reporting: Use email reports and charts to review sending activity.
- Failure alerts: Receive notifications through Telegram, Slack, Discord or Pushover.
- Command-line support: WP-CLI support may help teams manage email workflows from the command line.
All integrations and features are included free
FluentSMTP is presented as free and open source, with no pro version, paid add-ons or feature limits.
- No paid tier: Its integrations and listed features are included without an upgrade requirement.
- Practical implication: Sites can choose among its supported connections without budgeting for a premium plugin tier.
A widely used plugin with strong support resolution
FluentSMTP has broad adoption, an excellent user rating and a recent update, while its support figures indicate a high resolution rate.
The plugin was updated about five weeks ago. Its support record shows 23 threads, with 96% marked resolved; that points to responsive support activity, though it does not guarantee a particular response time. For sites choosing an email-routing plugin, these are positive maintenance and support signals, alongside the practical trade-off of configuring and maintaining the chosen email account.
