Description

Banner Only mode and its limits

Banner Only provides a customizable consent notice, but it does not block scripts or keep consent records.

  • Visitor choices: Set consent to register on a click, scroll or close, and choose cookie-expiry options.
  • Site details: Link to the WordPress Privacy Policy page; the banner also supports WPML and Polylang and is described as SEO friendly.
  • WP Consent API: When the companion plugin is active, Cookie Compliance registers as the consent management platform so compatible plugins can respond to visitor choices.
  • Important limit: This mode lacks automatic script blocking, consent categories and consent-record storage. A banner alone does not make a site compliant.

Connected consent controls and privacy records

Signing in to a free or paid Cookie Compliance account adds consent-management features beyond the banner.

  • Choice and duration: Visitors can accept none, some or all, choose by purpose category, and control how long consent lasts.
  • Transparency: Show consent metrics and lists of blocked and allowed third parties, plus a customizable Privacy Paper, privacy contact details and links to data-request forms.
  • Technical controls: Automatically hold non-essential scripts and iframes until a visitor chooses. GPC and Do Not Track signals are applied to the Marketing category when the banner reads them.
  • Records and analytics: Store consent records for export, and review visits, consent activity and a trust score in the analytics dashboard.
  • Compliance settings: Configurable defaults cover multiple privacy laws, but the result depends on your settings and how your site handles personal data.

Google, advertising and multi-domain integrations

Connected accounts link visitor choices to supported advertising signals and allow centralized domain management.

  • Google Consent Mode v2: Available on every plan, it adjusts Google service behavior according to consent.
  • Other advertising modes: Facebook and Microsoft Consent Modes are included with the Professional plan.
  • Languages and domains: Banner text is translated automatically and can be customized. Additional Free or Professional domains can be managed in one account, each with its own configuration and design.

Data sent when the plugin connects to Hu-manity.co

Banner Only runs on the WordPress site without creating an account or making calls to Hu-manity.co.

In Connected mode, the plugin communicates with Hu-manity.co over HTTPS for account access, site registration, banner configuration, consent analytics and records, and Professional-plan payments. Depending on the feature, data can include account email and password, the site URL, title, description and language, and application credentials. This distinction matters for site owners assessing what leaves their server: these connected-mode data transfers do not apply to Banner Only.

A useful consent toolkit, but not a compliance guarantee

Cookie Compliance offers a simple banner-only option and a connected platform with more extensive technical controls, but neither removes the need to configure consent for a site’s actual data practices.

The plugin is widely installed and has an excellent rating based on many reviews, and it was updated recently. Those are positive maturity signals, while the support record is less reassuring: none of five support threads are marked resolved. Sites needing script blocking and exportable consent evidence should consider the connected setup; sites using only the banner should account for its limits and review their own consent requirements.
