Broken-link checks and URL management
Broken-link checking and URL administration serve different purposes within the Links category.
- Broken Link Checker: With 500,000 active installs, it is among the category’s most installed plugins and is named for checking broken links.
- URL exports and changes: Export All URLs is focused on exporting URLs, while Automatic Domain Changer is named for changing domains; AutoConvert Greeklish Permalinks relates to permalink administration.
- Link management: Link Manager is another option in this group, distinct from checking whether links are broken.
Link behavior and attributes
Some plugins focus on how links behave or which attributes they carry.
- External Links in New Window / New Tab: Its name indicates a focus on opening external links in a new window or tab.
- Title and Nofollow For Links (Classic Editor): The title points to adding title and nofollow options to links.
- Gallery Custom Links: This plugin is named for setting custom links for galleries. The category’s related link, posts, and page tags show connections to content where links may appear.
Internal linking and related content tools
The category also includes tools connected to internal linking and content navigation.
Link Whisper Free is among the more-installed plugins in the category, with 30,000 active installs, and its name places it in the internal-linking group. LuckyWP Table of Contents, with 90,000 active installs, connects the category to navigation through page content.
Related tags include SEO (51 plugins in common), posts (33), widget (35), and shortcode (18). These connections reflect how link-related tools overlap with content discovery and navigation.
A large category with limited recent updates
The category is broad, but adoption is concentrated and recent maintenance is uneven.
There are 404 plugins in Links, but only one has at least 100,000 active installs; 11 have at least 10,000. This points to a small group accounting for much of the category’s larger-scale adoption.
Just 24% of plugins were updated in the last year. That share indicates limited recent update activity across the category, despite some high-adoption plugins receiving updates this month.
